Let the Fireworks Begin, the Tour de France is almost here!

And what a way for cycling fans in the USA to celebrate the 4th of July with a rarely seen Team Time Trial to kickoff Stage 1 of the Tour de France. Interesting to see the Grand Depart taking place in Barcelona a truly beautiful city nestled between the Mediterranean Sea and the local mountains.

I was fortunate to have spent many days in Barcelona on a business trip complete with my brand new at-the-time, Trek 5200, just released to amateur teams. Wow, the riding was incredible and the locals frequently asked if I was a traveling Pro. Fun times.

This year’s course promises to be legendary as the mountain stages are not only individually brutal but tackling the Alpe d’Huez twice, back-to-back. Once is brutal for most of us mere mortal cyclists. Twice? Oh this is going to be epic!

And for my fellow data center professionals, thank you for all of your cloud services, fiber, satellite, and under-sea-cable networks. We wouldn’t be able to watch this rolling festival unfold without you.

As we say at the start of many of our local group training rides, stay safe and keep the rubber-side down.

Vive le Tour
