More on that expression in a little bit. For now, what it signifies is the end to my planned RAAM2CC ride for 2026. I must be honest with myself that the ongoing back issues (laterally herniated L3/L4 disc primarily and herniated L5/S1(1)) have me totally sidelined until I have the necessary surgery to rectify the left leg nerve impingement severely limiting my mobility. When I do feel good enough to ride my bike it is for little more than an hour at a very pedestrian 14 mph average speed. Not making it across the USA like that!
Fortunately my neurosurgeon, Dr. Han of the Hoag Spine Institute and his incredible care team are convinced that a microdiscectomy will resolve my short and longterm conditions. There is a bit of a recovery period which in my case, due to my very competitive nature in sports, actually means I am being advised to wait LONGER before returning to what I consider ‘normal’ exercise.
At least it won’t be that much longer. Instead of the normal four-weeks I am being advised to wait six. By that time the disc will be fully healed and as likely to be re-injured as any of my other discs are to be injured. Since I don’t plan any base jumping activities or similar extreme sports (let’s not talk about the dual-sport bike just yet) my back should be good for a lifetime.
So as they say in Hollywood – that’s a wrap, at least for the 2026 effort. Now back to that expression, the first time I remember hearing it was when I went to a studio set in LA to visit my sister Denise who was producing a commercial. Like most first time observers to such a spectacle, I was a bit in awe. I watched a few dry runs then the real work began. One thing that amazed me was with all the actors, movement, sound, props, lighting, etc. my sister was taking it all in to the minutest of details. She said – hey that was excellent. However, can someone get that light, number X (it was way up on scaffolding) and tie it down. It was bouncing just a bit during the shot.
The next take went without a hitch. After a few backs and forth with the director I distinctly remember my sister saying, ok people, that’s a wrap!
Proud moment. And I quickly took adopted that phrase into my lexicon. Perhaps one of the first to bring it to the tech community.
I won’t be posting very much more on this website, at least not until I ascertain my recover and plans for 2027. You will be able to read more from me under my new business; Pouchet Advisory Services LLC. (under development)
As my good friend Tiggr would say Ta Ta for now.
