August – Mostly a Great Month

At least for my bicycle training, coaching, and medical / life-safety training. Although it did get unseasonably hot several times forcing me to modify plans (shorter and a lot slower in the heat) I was able to set a new PR for monthly distance. See report below.

Note: as most long-distance adventure riders will tell you, when training it isn’t about fixating on average speed. Power, Zone 2 capacity, ability to push Zones 3 and 4 occasionally with good recovery are better metrics. Plus, and this is a big factor, I do one or two training sessions with the NICA Trabuco Hills team a week. Those are a Ton of Fun but not at all about speed.

Speaking of Heat I saw 104F on that ride

August did not pass without a little grief and frustration. Sadly at the end of the month our primary investor threw in the towel announcing Natron Energy will be discontinuing operations on Wednesday September 3rd. Fortunately our CEO, the board, and investors is treating everyone fairly on the way out making the transition to unemployment a little easier for all.

Life moves on. I will be exploring career options as a corporate advisor, board member, or executive director.

On the medical front, I took and passed the Red Cross First Aid, CPR, AED Pediatrics to Adult class. Now certified.

This fulfilled my training to achieve Level 2 Coach status at NICA

Now onwards towards a 1,000 mile training month in September.
