Calories Burned on a Typical Ride

This Friday I was able to join my local coffee ride. A small group of four of us on a 38 mile loop. Adding in the ride from my home and back it nets out a little over 51 miles. A modest 1800 feet of climbing which is on the flat side for rides in my area.

Looking at the data, see screen shot below of the power and calories. You’ll have to take my word that the ride time was 3 hours 18 minutes.

My calorie burn rate was around 480 calories an hour. Note this includes base load / resting calories but calories over time is what we are looking at and more importantly what a rider needs to put back into their body.

You can see I consumed 900 calories. That was comprised of one sports water bottle with Skratch hydration mix, one Gu early in the ride. Two bars while riding. One before coffee and one after. And an almond butter and jelly small sandwich one multi-grain bread at the coffee stop.

Makes for a sizable caloric deficit that lunch alone doesn’t resolve. Had to follow up in the afternoon with a yogurt, berries, protein powder, and cereal snack.

The RAAM2CC with 45 epic days of riding is going to be challenging from a calorie intake perspective!
