Well that’s my observation for some, not all US destinations. It seems the US Navy has a penchant for placing boomer sub bases off the beaten path. Yes, that is by plan and a very good idea for national security!
However when to comes to flying commercial transportation from KSNA (Santa Ana, CA) to KJAX (Jacksonville, FL) one’s options become limited very quickly. Especially for nearly retired people who want to use frequent flyer miles.
Were money not a consideration I would grab a NetJets or other private jet and fly either from Santa Ana or Fullerton straight to Brunswick (KBQK). Closest commercial airport at least for a G4 or even a Cirrus Vision Jet.
However all of my California Lottery tickets have been defective.
So it’s United or American / Alaska flight schedules for me. Yes, Delta has a few good options but I am mile-less with zippo status.
Hard to believe with all the early morning flights out of SNA to IAH (Houston) there aren’t any flights to JAX that arrive before 9:30 PM local time. Hey people, what’s the hangup with flying to Jacksonville? Sure Orlando has Disney everything but Jacksonville has awesome beaches and proximity to all sorts of Navy and Coast Guard bases.
Don’t know what happened to the early morning options on United from SNA via IAH that arrived around 6PM local time. All gone.
Not complaining, too loudly anyway, as I will take Free flights when available. Just makes for a long day. Both directions as return flights are either o-dark-thirty AM or late afternoon arriving around SNA airport closure times.
And yes, given the opportunity I would do the Cirrus flying school from SR to Jet in a year or less. Already have some time in my buddy’s beautiful bird.
Fly safely! Fly often.
